This week, our Department of International Relations and European Studies hosted a visiting scholar, Benjamin Martill from the University of Edinburgh . Ben is a renowned British academic: a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Edinburgh and an Associate at LSE IDEAS, the foreign policy think-tank of the London School of Economics. His research examines the politics of foreign policy, with a focus on Brexit and European security. Benjamin is also a Co-Editor of the Routledge book series on Contemporary European Politics, a Co-Investigator on the Horizon 2020 project ENGAGE and Associate Director of the Europa Institute. He has previously taught at the London School of Economics, University College London and the University of Oxford.

In 2022, Ben gave us an online guest lecture within the “Britain and the European Union” class and this year we were very happy to be able to welcome Ben in person at our department. During his visit, Ben delivered a series of guest lectures in various courses, including EU foreign policy toward Russia and Eastern partnership countries; Theory of International Relations and European Integration; Politics of Euroscepticism and Comparative Politics of EU countries. Students and the faculty alike benefited greatly from Ben’s insights, expertise and thoughtful contributions. And vice versa, Ben very much enjoyed great discussions with our students, friendly atmosphere at the department and, of course, the fantastic Czech beer :-)
