Monika Brusenbauch Meislová, together with Julie Smith (University of Cambridge) and Ed Turner (Aston University), has authored a new blog post for Ideas on Europe (the blog of JCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies), titled “Anatomy of a Stalemate: Why the EU–UK Youth Mobility Plan Hit a Brick Wall.”
Building on their recent JCMS article , the authors unpack how a seemingly straightforward and mutually beneficial proposal - a youth mobility scheme between the EU and the UK - became mired in political deadlock. Despite strong public support and the symbolic value of the scheme in rebuilding trust, the idea has faltered under the weight of post-Brexit suspicion, misperceptions, and structural constraints.
