Monika Brusenbauch Meislová co-edits a special issue in the Journal of Contemporary European Studies
Monika Brusenbauch Meislová has co-edited, together with Matuš Mišík, a special issue Two decades of EU membership of the Journal of Contemporary European Studies (Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group) on 20th anniversary of the 2004 EU Eastern enlargement. The special issue provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary examination of the membership experience of the eight post-Communist Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries that joined the EU in 2004, alongside Cyprus and Malta.
In their open access introductory article , Monika and Matúš reflect on the promises, complexities, and evolving legacies of the 2004 enlargement. The introduction sets the stage for ten thought-provoking contributions that examine the membership experience from a wide range of disciplinary and national perspectives. The articles address themes ranging from energy security, EU policy-making, democratization, and identity politics, to institutional adaptation, media and discourse, and national branding. The collection offers a nuanced picture of how these countries have shaped and been shaped by their EU membership over the past two decades.
