As Summer Unfolds, We Look Back at Monika’s Eventful Final Week of June

17 Jul 2025

The last week of June was a busy and rewarding one for Monika Brusenbauch Meislová, who first travelled to London to speak at the British Parliament at an event titled ‘Central Europe at a Time of European and Transatlantic Challenges’ (for more details, see the previous article ) , and also to deliver a talk at the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office).

From London, she headed straight to Berlin to take part in the ‘UK in Europe’ conference, organised by Bertelsmann Stiftung, the Centre for British Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and the German Association for British Studies. This engaging gathering brought together scholars from across Europe to examine the UK’s evolving role in Europe and beyond. Highlights included a keynote by Sir Ivan Rogers, former UK Permanent Representative to the EU and G7/G20 Sherpa, and an address by H.E. Andrew Mitchell, the British Ambassador to Germany. At the conference, Monika presented her ongoing research with Birgit Bujard, ‘Framing the Dragon: Comparing UK and EU Discourses on China as the ‘Other’.’
