A new article by Petr Kaniok in the prestigious Journal of European Integration
Petr Kaniok has published a new article titled "The Neutral Servant: The Czech EU Council Presidency and Its Framing by Political Parties" in the prestigious Journal of European Integration. The article focuses on how Czech political parties legitimized the preparation of the Czech EU Council Presidency in 2022, specifically examining whether the strategies of populist and mainstream parties differed. Its main finding is that both groups approached the presidency and its preparation in a similar and neutral manner. However, compared to the governing coalition parties, populists showed significantly less interest in the presidency and focused on other issues, particularly those related to the war in Ukraine.
