Our Origins
Founded in 2020, ARCTOS originated from the interdisciplinary project “ARCTOS MU: Impact of Climate Change and Human Activities in the Arctic,” funded by the Grant Agency of Masaryk University (GAMU). We were established to bridge the gap between the Faculties of Social Studies, Law, and Science, creating a synergy that is essential for understanding the Arctic’s rapid environmental and geopolitical shifts.
Research Mission & Objectives
Our mission is to investigate the intersection of human activity and climate transformation. We focus on:
- Comprehensive Risk Assessment: Analyzing challenges within terrestrial ecosystems.
- Strategic Mitigation: Formulating recommendations to protect Arctic populations and environments.
- Security & Law: Investigating the legal and geopolitical consequences of environmental change.
Our Strategic Pillars
- Innovation: Conducting high-impact, interdisciplinary research.
- Prestige: Raising the profile of Arctic research in Central Europe.
- Cooperation: Strengthening international ties with polar institutions.
- Platform: Serving as a collaborative hub for future scientific inquiry.
