Zdeněk Kříž on Czech Security Policy between 1993 and 2018

29 Oct 2020

Zdeněk Kříž published a new article titled "The security perception and security policy of the Czech Republic, 1993–2018" in Defense & Security Analysis journal published by the Taylor & Francis publishing house.

The article describes changes in the Czech security policy in the examined era and profound changes that took place in the 2015 version of the document. The 2015 Security Strategy responded to the changes of the international security environment, especially to the Russian aggressive policy in Ukraine, hybrid war waged by Russia against the West, escalation of conflict in Syria against the background of the Arab Spring and the refugee crisis directly related to it. The article also analyzes the Czech attitude towards its alliance duties and concludes that the Czech Republic can be expected to be a rather passive actor, meeting its allies' expectations only to an extent that is strictly necessary.
