We welcomed esteemed guest Vladimir Gel'man through the CENTREPEACE project for lectures on post-Soviet Russia and the war in Ukraine
Last week, we had the pleasure to welcome Professor Vladimir Gel'man from the Aleksanteri Institute at the University of Helsinki. Professor Gel'man specializes in Russia and its politics, particularly in the post-Soviet space.
Professor Gel'man's visit took place within the framework of the Central and Eastern European Security Cooperation Cluster project, in which our department and the Department of Political Science at FSS MU are collaborating with the University of Helsinki and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) institute in Oslo, Norway.
During his visit, Professor Gel'man delivered a series of lectures on the topic of the collapse of the USSR and the subsequent situation, the development of institutions in post-Soviet Russia, and its civil society.
As part of his visit, he also presented his latest book, titled "Russia's Gamble: The Domestic Origins of Russia's Attack on Ukraine," in which he examines the reasons for the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Last but not least, Prof. Geľman also held lectures in an intensive course titled "Political Changes in Post-Soviet Eurasia".
