Vladimir Vučković has published a new article in the prestigious journal Communist and Post-Communist Studies
The article “Power Preservation, No Matter the Means: Populism and Conspiracy Theory as Instruments of Political Consolidation in Serbia” analyzes the narratives employed by Serbia’s political leadership. It explores how the ruling elite under Aleksandar Vučić combines populist rhetoric with conspiracy theories to maintain power by instilling fear regarding threats to statehood and geopolitical stability. This study addresses a significant gap in the literature, as previous research has rarely examined the intersection of populism and conspiracy theory. The findings highlight the elite’s use of self-victimization narratives and anti-Western sentiments, contributing to the ongoing discourse about power dynamics and the state of democracy in Serbia, particularly through the influence of pro-regime media.
