In this piece, Zuzana and Jan examine Czechia's government communication amid the conflict in Ukraine and the role of empathy in political discourse. Their findings reveal that while the Czech Prime Minister acknowledges the efforts of volunteers helping refugees, empathy towards citizens hesitant to offer help is notably absent from his communication. Additionally, their research challenges the expected impact of empathetic communication on public support. Contrary to expectations, expressing empathy with citizens' concerns does not significantly increase public support for helping Ukrainian refugees.
