European single currency
Author: PhDr. Zdeněk Sychra, Ph.D.
The creation of the European Single Currency and building of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) represents one of the largest and most ambitious projects that the EU has launched, while also being rather controversial. This book attempts to capture the nature and context of the EMU in its entirety. It deals with the evolution of monetary cooperation, analyses the realisation of the project on the European level, including its input conditions, decision-making processes, institutional structure etc. Also, the book traces the implementation of the common currency on the level of individual member states. The author takes into consideration not only the standard moves and procedures, but also undesirable or questionable phenomena that have accompanied the process. The EMU is understood here as an inseparable part of the process of European integration, and put into the wider context of the EU’s functioning.
