Strong showing by the department at the EUSN conference in Norköping
Our department's research team attended the 8th European Conference on Social Networks (EUSN) in Norrköping, Sweden, hosted by the Institute for Analytical Sociology, Linköping University. Masaryk University had the fourth highest number of presenters at the conference!
Our team presented three research papers:
- Doctoral student Harald Waxenecker presented research on the co-evolution of beliefs in Czech climate policy. The results show that like-minded actors collaborate more, while neither collaboration nor scientific exchange appears to systematically affect their initial beliefs.
- Another doctoral student of our department, Petr Vadovič, analysed how policy changes are justified in parliamentary debates. The data suggest that after the so-called solar boom, opposition to decarbonization shifted from open criticism to more subtle obstruction in the form of watering down legislative instruments.
- Petr Ocelík, in co-authorship with Adriana Ilavská, presented their work in progress using policy networks and legacy media data. The preliminary results point to the persistent, though adaptive, presence of climate obstruction and the strong influence of communities tied to incumbent industry.
