Simona Dianová and Monika Brusenbauch Meislová in the Journal of Language and Politics Blog: The Afterlife of “Project Fear” in Brexit Discourse (2016–2024)
In the new Journal of Language and Politics blog interview, Simona Dianová and Monika Brusenbauch Meislová discuss how fear-based discourse surrounding Brexit has persisted well beyond the 2016 referendum, when David Cameron's Remain campaign was famously labelled “Project Fear”. In the interview, they explain how this discourse evolved from Theresa May’s premiership through to Rishi Sunak’s, showing how fear appeals became a consistent tool within British prime ministerial rhetoric. The discussion builds on their recently published open-access article, “Navigating Brexit through fear: An appraisal analysis of 2016–2024 British Prime Ministerial discourse”, in the Journal of Language and Politics.
