Students praise new innovative course on EU digital diplomacy

1 Aug 2025

Students gave exceptionally positive feedback on the newly introduced master’s course Diplomacy and Communication in the Digital Era: Insights from the EU, which Monika Brusenbauch Meislová taught last spring semester as part of the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Digital Diplomacy.

Students valued the dynamic structure of the course, its relevance, and engaging teaching methods. They enjoyed creative and practical assignments, such as podcast creation, and inspiring lectures by guest experts. Many appreciated the continuous assessment format and the course’s strong focus on current trends.

The course offered students a unique opportunity to explore how digital technologies and social media have transformed diplomacy, with a particular focus on the European Union’s role as a global actor. Through interactive teaching methods such as Policy Hackathons, MemeFests, and Scenario Planning Workshops, students engaged with the most pressing issues, including disinformation, climate diplomacy, and the EU’s digital response to international crises.

The course will be taught again for master's students in the spring semester
of 2026. A new course, "EU Diplomacy in a Digital Age," is currently being
developed for bachelor's students and will be taught in the fall of 2025.
Something to look forward to!
