Reagan and the Evil Empire

Author: PhDr. Petr Suchý, Ph.D.

The development of the relations between Superpowers in the 80s of the 20th century belongs to the most significant phenomena of the last decade of the Cold War. Policy of the Reagan administration had an uncompromising impact on their transformation and on the change of Soviet attitudes and policies. US foreign policy towards the Soviet Union is the main topic of the publication. The first part is dedicated to the development of the various foreign policy concepts and the effort to make use of economic Instruments. It also examines the progress of the negotiations on the highest level and attempts to prove the connection between Reagan’s sharp policy and positive results, which started to appear in the second half of the 1980s and culminated in the downfall of the communist regimes in the Central and Eastern Europe and the collapse od the “evil empire” itself.
