Vratislav Havlík on Europeanisation of Territoriality

Vratislav Havlík published an article in Common Market Studies, the leading journal in European studies. His text titled "Europeanisation as the re-territorialisation of the state: towards conceptual clarification conceptually" describes a new kind of Europeanisation processes in EU member states.

In connection with the so-called territorial dimension of the cohesion policy promoted by the European Commission, a gradual Europeanisation of a territorial organisation can be observed in EU member states. The paper offers an innovative view of the Europeanisation of territoriality. The key argument is that there are two ways of studying the Europeanisation of territoriality: (1) as changes in the spatial organisation of member states and the establishment of new regions (a static component of the polity); and (2) as changes in relations between actors of governance in consequence of the new territorial arrangement (a dynamic component of politics).
