Friday, June 01, 2018

Vít Hloušek together with Croatian sociologist Viktor Koska wrote a book chapter “Shifting borders and contested identities: the quest for republican EU citizenship and polity” which is a part of the book Reconsidering EU citizenship: Contradictions and constraints published by prestigious publishin house Edward Elgar. The research is a product of the project bEUcitizen funded by the European Commission.

The book chapter deals with the issue of citizenship of the European Union facing the changing borders and contesting of various concepts of collective identities. The authors claim that for maintenance of coherence of the very idea of EU citizenship, a republican concept of it completing the human rights with political obligations and virtues is needed.
