Jirušek lectured in Baltimore, Washington, and Chicago

Martin Jirušek marked several teaching and conference appearances in the past weeks, namely at universities in Baltimore, Washington, DC, and an annual conference organized by the Midwest Political Science Association in Chicago.

In the last week of March, martin took part in a discussion panel on the topic of war in Ukraine, organized by the Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore. The discussion entailed contributions on the topic of disinformation, Russian foreign policy, and the state of Russian society. Martin contributed with his take on the role of the energy sector in the Russian economy and foreign policy.

In the first week of April, Martin gave a lecture in the International Politics of Central and Eastern Europe course at George Washington University, where he is spending this academic year as a Fulbright visiting scholar. In his lecture titled Ukraine and Russia: Geopolitical Struggle with Broad Consequences, Martin elaborated on the geopolitical situation in central and eastern Europe before and after Russian aggression against Ukraine.

In the same week, Martin took part in the annual conference organized by the Midwest Political Science Association, where he marked three conference appearances .

  • In the contribution titled „The Spectre of Nord Stream 2: How the Pipeline Highlighted a Fundamental Mismatch in the Transatlantic Area “, Martin presented preliminary research results on the differences between US and European foreign policies in the case of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
  • The second contribution was titled „Strained Relations in the High North: Steps-to-War Analysis of Conflict Potential in the Arctic“. Here, Martin presented teamwork conducted within the Masaryk University Grant Agency project on assessing risks in the Arctic.
  • Last but not least, martin participated in a discussion on the text named „New Cold War or a Hybrid Campaign? Framing Analysis of Russian English-Speaking Media: RT and Sputnik News“, stemming from research conducted with Dr. Kuchynkova, and Dr. Števkov. The text is looking into narratives used by Sputniknews and Russia Today in relation to the downing of the MH17 jet and the poisoning of agent Skripal in Salisbury, UK.
